Title of Poster: 3 – 2 - 1 Blast Off! Launching the iPad into the Academic Librarian’s Orbit
Type of Program: Information Literacy & Teaching
Description: The iPad, with its large screen and universe of web apps, offers an ideal platform to explore the functionality of mobile devices in an academic environment. This poster documents a project to explore the impact of iPad functionality, apps and accessories on the effectiveness and efficiency on the librarian’s work “in the field” as she interacts with students, consults with faculty and other customers, collaborates with library colleagues and reads and writes in support of job duties, professional scholarship and service. Specifically, we will address the following questions: Can the use of an iPad increase a librarian’s productivity? How are students using the iPad for learning, especially in regard to accessing and using library services and resources? How are other academic librarians using iPads? What are the opportunities for using iPads to collaborate with faculty and staff to support student learning and faculty teaching?
